From the 1st Vice President

Charlie Patnode, Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office

Hope this message finds everyone well. As the 1st Vice President of the Texas Police Association
and a proud member since 1993, I am continually inspired by the dedication and camaraderie
that define our organization. Over the years, TPA has built a reputation rooted in exemplary
training, expert case law summaries in our bi-monthly digital bulletin, and a steadfast commitment
to supporting our members and their families.

A few years ago, I was honored to join the Glen McLaughlin Scholarship Fund at the request of
Joey Sherman, former TPA Executive Director and my former Captain at Bastrop County Sheriff’s
Office. This opportunity allowed me to assist with selecting scholarship recipients and organizing
fundraising efforts. The scholarships have provided members with the chance to attend week-long
leadership schools or other TPA conferences—investing in our most valuable asset: our people.

In addition, the TPA launched the Jack Ryle Scholastic Scholarship, dedicated to supporting the
children of our members as they embark on their trade school/college journeys. This year, we
proudly honored the first recipients of those scholarships, a milestone that underscores our
commitment to fostering the next generation of law enforcement leaders.

Both scholarship programs are now united under the Texas Police Association Foundation,
amplifying our ability to make a meaningful impact. To sustain and grow these initiatives, we’ve
been raising funds through creative means—most notably, raffling off a variety of firearms. From
lever-action rifles and engraved 1911 pistols to custom pistols from renowned manufacturers, each
raffle brings us closer to our fundraising goals.

Looking ahead, the 2026 TPA Annual Training Conference in El Paso, hosted by our current
President Micki Lintz, promises to be an exciting event. We’ve secured some incredible raffle
prizes, including a pair of authentic black powder pistols from Pietta Firearms and a sleek
derringer from Bond Arms. However, to maximize our fundraising efforts, I am actively seeking at
least three more generous donations. If you know of any individuals or businesses willing to
support this cause, please contact me directly.

Tickets for the raffle will be available prior to the conference, with the drawings taking place
during the event. Your support not only helps fund scholarships but also invests in the future
        leadership of our profession.

Thank you for your continued service and commitment. Together, we can ensure that the legacy
of the Texas Police Association endures—strengthening our mission to serve, protect, and lead.
