Some Caisson Construction Details

1. Total of 74 caissons constructed.

2. First caisson excavation began on 12 April 2014.

3. Last caisson was excavated on 11 February 2015.

4. 8 caissons were constructed simultaneously at any time.

5. Every 4m extra length caisson excavation in soil incurs about 10 extra

days of construction per pile.

6. Increased depth drastically reduced work productivity. It also imposed

greater demands on caisson lining strength and management for water

intrusion besides the obvious increase in excavation, concrete and

reinforcement quantities.

7. Each caisson lining failure required remediation work to the collapsed

bore/ground before re-starting completely afresh.
