• Determine column diameter:- based on soil properties and loading.
Conducting some insitu tests CPT etc.
• Estimated column spacing:- Safe distance should be at least twice
diameter.
• Column Length:- bearing and stiffness of soil
• Bearing capacity :- Terzaghi’s bearing capacity equation.
• Verification of settlement:- Critical factor. Verified using empirical
correlations / numerical analysis
• Spacing Adjustment:- Adjust accordingly to meet the settlement /cost
• Construction and Quality Control.
