4. How to become a member
routes to membership
We recognise that there are many ways of acquiring knowledge
and proving competence, so we provide three flexible routes to
membership.
1. Achievement of the IFA Direct education programme.
2. Achievement of other accountancy qualifications.
3. Recognition of your membership of other accountancy
bodies where membership has been achieved through
education.
IFA Direct – the Institutes education programme
Administered in partnership with ATHE, IFA Direct provides a
unique, flexible online way to study.
The online unit approach provides a flexible and modern format. It
allows you to study around other commitments regardless of
where you are in the world and without having to be away from the
workplace.
IFA Direct is made up of fourteen units, with units at levels 4, 5 and
7. The programme and each unit is focused on the needs of SMEs
and SMPs, with coverage of financial accounting, financial
rereporting, management accounting, law, and tax.
All IFA Direct study is completed online with the support of an
approved training centre. Study includes tuition, learning materials,
support, and the end of unit written assessment. Each unit on
average takes 4-6 weeks to complete, more than one unit can be
studied at a time and the studier is in control of when they start and
finish each unit.
