Daniel Matjasz - Field Engineer, UK
Business must continue, despite all that is happening around the world and as field engineers, we are making sure that we continue to deliver. Fortunately, the UK government had alerted us to the lockdown ahead of time, so we deployed all spare kits and tried to plan for all eventualities. We worked hard to try and get one step ahead of the game and get processes in place to soften the pain. There has been a huge uptake of services globally and we have strived to meet the expectations and demanding timescales to keep our clients happy.
To cope with the virus, I have come up with some measures that have helped me to deliver my tasks in a daily routine. I try to do my work early morning and later in the evening to avoid my four-year-
old son tugging on my trouser leg, begging for attention - although this makes me very happy. As a team, we are now mostly back onsite every day, so I have changed my travel times to lessen the burden on the commuter traffic. We also try to schedule work; so we have perhaps one visit per site per week and limit the interactions we have between ourselves.
My main challenge is that I have elderly parents who are on the ‘At Risk’ list, so as much as possible I try to keep them safe and avoid putting them in danger. However, in one way or another, I am also happy that at least I get to spend some quality time with my family, enjoy a more traditional lifestyle with the children, explore the countryside and be more creative.
