Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
Skills that students develop as part of the EPQ are highly valued, and some
universities signal this by adjusting their standard offer for certain courses to include
the EPQ. This means they have their normal three A Level grade offer and an
alternative offer including the EPQ.
For example:
•
At the University of Birmingham, applicants who take the EPQ and meet their
offer criteria will be made two offers: the standard offer for their programme of
choice; and an alternative offer which will be one grade lower plus a grade A in the
EPQ (excluding Medicine and Dentistry programmes).
•
At Queen Mary’s University London, if a course requires A, B, B from three A Levels,
they may provide the alternative offer of B, B, B and A in EPQ (excluding Medicine
and Dentistry programmes).

Others use EPQ results in Confirmation and
Clearing to distinguish between students who
have the same A Level results. EPQs are widely
valued by universities and colleges making
points-based offers.
