Seaford College: Welcome to Year 9
I am delighted to be writing to you in anticipation of you joining Seaford’s
Year 9 community this coming September. It is a very special place
and I believe you will find us to be a very close, warm and welcoming
community.
It is my wholehearted belief that we create a range of opportunities across all
aspects of the curriculum in Year 9 including academic, sporting, performing
arts, outdoor education and pastoral. Your task, as students, is to make the most
of every opportunity, and to ‘have a go’ at trying something new. You never
know – there may just be something on offer at Seaford which you have never
experienced before and which might be the beginning of something truly
wonderful and life-defining!
We are very proud of our pastoral care and we take time to get to know every
student. Our tutors, led by the Head of Year 9, see students twice daily, and act
as a champion for their tutees within the school. This family-like structure means
that our tutors develop an interest in all that their tutees undertake, whether
academic, sporting or elsewhere in school life. In addition, our pastoral support
centre, No. 46, provides an additional layer of specialist pastoral care and is
available at any time for any student. Sometimes, just being listened to at the
right moment can make all the difference!
Our school motto is ‘Ad Alta’ meaning ‘Reach for the Heights’. Over the next
five years, you can look forward to embarking upon a fantastic journey. We will
continually support and encourage you to achieve your ‘personal bests’ in and
outside of the classroom. I hope that ‘Ad Alta’ will come to mean something truly
special to you during your time at Seaford. We look forward to welcoming you
into Year 9 this September.
