Learning Support
Support offered by the Academic Access and
Achievement Department
There are three levels of intervention offered to students to support their
studies in Year 9. These are Core Support groups, 1:1 Intervention and
Academic Confidence Clinics.
In Year 9 core support, targeted intervention is designed to facilitate the
development of fundamental skills in English and/or Maths. Skills such as
proofreading, effective punctuation, numerical operations and formula applications
are targeted in these sessions, offering consolidation and practise, which can
especially benefit those with further needs. Following the first term in Year 9,
students who may benefit from this targeted intervention, are identified by the
Heads of Departments and Head of Academic Access and Achievement. We will
then contact you to arrange these sessions within your son/daughter’s timetable, to
commence in the Spring Term.
1:1 sessions are available once a week. Specialist teachers work closely with parents,
teachers and any external providers to ensure that support is targeted and tailored
to students’ individual needs. There is an additional charge for 1:1 sessions and should
you like to discuss this arrangement please contact Jen Owen (jowen@seaford.org).
Academic Confidence Clinic is an ‘invite only’ homework club held during afternoon
prep at 4.30pm. These clinics are led by specialist teachers who assist students
with prep management. Students who are invited to these sessions are supported
in the development of their executive functioning skills in order to manage preps
effectively and develop independence in learning. Students who may not have
any specific targeted intervention, but have additional learning needs may benefit
from these sessions. Please contact Jen Owen (jowen@seaford.org) if you would like
discuss an invitation for your son/daughter.
