The ‘3 Mil’ Fraud by Calder Baxter
Chapter 1: The Realisation Andrew Syce: “Come on, man ,just stay, I promise we’ll start gettin' cash.”
Joshua Darnell: “Oh please, you spent all the remainin' money on that goddam Boeing 737 and now this place is going into the dumps. You’re broke and you can’t pay your employees, just face it, you’re not going anywhere with this.”
Andrew: “Oh yeah, well you ain’t got nothin' going for ya either, you’re as penniless as I am.”
Joshua: “Why don’t ya just go back to Italy to your parents, I’m sure they’ll take you in.”
Andrew: “I wasn’t born or raised in Italy, you goddam idiot. And also, it would be crazy to go to Italy, I can’t go back to my parents as a failure they’ll disown me. And I’m not even sure I can afford a flight to Italy.“
Joshua takes a minute to gather his thoughts.
Joshua: “Andrew. Goddamit. Andrew, please you gotta realise that this isn’t going anywhere.”
Joshua: “I mean, come on,” he chuckled
Joshua: “You gotta realise that this airline was a bad idea ever since we started it, I mean the only person that is now willing to stay is Daniel. Please, for mine and your sake, please get your money back from the Boeing.”
Andrew: “No, I’ll be dammed if I’ll send it back, it’s our ticket to fame.” Andrew said sharply.
Joshua: “Well then, I can’t follow because this just outright insane. Have a nice life, you dirty rat.”
Andrew (Narrating): “All I could think about in that moment was when we got together in ‘79 and built this airline together, from the moment Joshua walked out the door I realised I couldn’t do this any longer. Until the biggest mistake I had ever made came around that corner. Daniel, Daniel was my assistant in this mess, he’s a skinny pure American blood kinda guy, though he knew all kinds of bad people, bad people like me. I can admit that I’m greedy, hopeless and selfish but there is nothin' on this awful earth that is worse than that man.”
Daniel Mann: “Andrew”
Daniel: “Andrew”
Andrew: “What?” Andrew said in fear, tears rolling down his eyes.
Daniel: “Andrew, I heard an argument from my office. Is everything alright.”
Andrew: “Joshua just left the airline for good.”
Daniel: “What a coward. Come on, I’ll buy ya a drink.”
Chapter 2: The Idea
Andrew (Narrating): “On that summer night of ‘87 I made a choice that would change my life forever, god I was such
a meat-head to even consider it, ah I shoulda never taken that drink.”
Andrew: “Oh Jesus, what am I gonna do.”
Daniel: “Don’t worry, we’re fine, it’s like we just hit a speed bump. We just gotta speed up again.”
Andrew: “No, we haven’t hit a speed bump, we crashed into a brick wall,” he said loudly.
Andrew: “Hey Daniel, if ya got any ideas, I’m open to any of ‘em, no matter how crazy.”
There was silence between them, so Daniel could think.
Andrew (Narrating): “Maybe I was drunk or being stupid but, either way, I can’t believe I went along with this.” Daniel: “Andrew,” he said softly.
Daniel: “I have an idea.”
Andrew: “Really, what you got?” he said in relief.
Daniel: “Well, I have a friend called Joey who works in the stock market in Manhattan and he’s a real dirt bag.” Andrew: “Why?”
Daniel: “Because he steals money from random peoples’ stock shares, he takes a few hundred dollars at a time and stays under the radar.”
Andrew: “How are we gonna get him to help us.”
Daniel: “Ah, he owes me a favour. See his sister really wanted a husband but she’s never had any luck, Joey’s real protective and caring about his sis so he asked me to marry her just to make her feel better, in return he does me a huge favour whenever I need it.”
Andrew: “But we need at least $15 million for our airline, getting a few hundred dollars twice every week is not gonna cut it.”
Daniel: “We’ll figure it out, just drink and it will all be better.”
Andrew: “I got a good feelin' about us.”
Daniel: “Cheers.”
Andrew: “Cheers.”
Chapter 3: The Favour Joey Forrman: “Hey, Daniel,” he said cheerfully.
