IGCSE English Language
It’s impossible to get through any day without using the skills developed in English Language. As well as developing reading and writing, this course is designed to focus on analytical, communication and drafting skills which are transferrable across a range of subjects and careers. Many employers and most higher education establishments therefore want students to have at least a grade 4 in the subject.
Course Outline:
The course consists of 3 components, as listed below:
1. Non-FictionReading and Writing (60% - 2 hour 15 minute exam)
• SectionA–analysing one unseen text and one prepared text
• SectionB–writingto argue, persuade or advise
2. Poetry & Prose analysis (20% - coursework)
• Studentswillreada collection of set texts and will choose two or more to explore a given theme (minimum 800 words)
3. Original Writing (20% - coursework)
• Studentswillbegivena variety of tasks to choose from and will create a piece of their own writing (minimum 800 words)
