Your success
Tracked and personalised
At Seaford College,
we provide an all-
round education that
enables students
to develop the high
self-esteem essential
for success in not
only the academic
curriculum but also
our extensive co-
curricular provision.
We aim for all students
to achieve their
personal bests in every
activity with which
they engage. In the
academic curriculum,
we believe that
effective teaching in
lessons and targeted
prep (homework)
enables students to
achieve this aim in all
curriculum subjects.
We recognise that
each student is at the
heart of the process
and that inspiring
each individual to
aspire to be the very
best they can possibly
be is the key to a
student ‘reaching their
potential’.
Challenge Grades are
at the heart of our
academic reporting
framework to ensure
that students achieve
their academic
personal bests.
Challenge Grades are a measure of a student’s
potential and track their academic progress –
reported to students and parents through termly
Academic Reports.
Each subject sets a Challenge Grade which is an
ambitious but realistic target for students to achieve
by the end of the course in Year 11. These are not
predicted grades but what a student could achieve
with hard work and commitment in that subject.
Progress against Challenge Grades is shown using
Progress Colours, which indicate if a student is on
track or not to achieve their Challenge Grade by
the end of the course. A green Progress Colour
indicates being on track, gold and platinum indicate
being on track to achieve higher, while yellow
and red flag a concern where intervention in and/
or out of the classroom is required. Challenge
Grades and Progress Colours are supported by
Working at Grades in Year 10 and 11, which show the
grade a student is currently working at based on
assessments throughout the course and up to the
time of reporting. The diagram on the top of the
next page brings to life Challenge Grades, Progress
Colours and Working at Grades.
At any time, a parent, student or teacher can view
termly Academic Reports on Firefly as well as
contact their form tutor or teachers if they have any
questions or require additional support. Challenge
Grades are reviewed termly, and teachers often
increase them if students appear to be on track to
surpass them.
