for the first two years to save money. School
didn’t always come easy to me and I worked
very hard at my studies. I also worked hard at
part-time legal jobs that I was able to procure,
mostly in areas of law I was not interested in,
but at least those jobs helped me frame what
I didn’t want to do and put some money in my
pocket to pay for tuition, books, and Friday
nights out with my fraternity brothers.
Why did you elect to pursue a joint
degree?
I pursued the joint degree at IIT based on a
single conversation I overheard as a kid at a
holiday dinner. I had an older cousin who was
a cardiologist in Florida. His first partner was
an older doctor who owned the building they
practiced in and rented out all the other suites
to other doctors. They also had an exclusive
contract with the local hospital to read all
EKG’s. I realized then that no matter what
profession you are in, you need to think outside
of the box and make it a business and look for
opportunities that your peers may miss.
How did you prepare to work in the law
profession?
In preparation for working in law, I simply
worked in as many different capacities and
firms as I could get jobs to try and hone in on
where I wanted to end up. The irony is that

Outside of work what do you do for fun?
My wife Lara and I very much enjoy
traveling and we are total foodies. We are also
both into fitness, which helps us stay foodies.
Besides that, I try to capitalize on every free
moment I have with my boys who are growing
up too fast. Coaching and watching them play
sports is tremendous. And, I can’t leave out
my Cubbies. I just enjoyed my first season as
a season ticket holder and can’t wait for some
more magic on the Northside in 2016.
