alys longley was born in July 1978 in Auckland, New Zealand. She studied for a Bachelor of Arts degree at Otago University in Theatre and Modern Literature and Film followed by a Masters Degree in Dance Studies and a PhD in Performance Studies from Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia. An interdisciplinary artist, writer and teacher, alys’s work exists as live performance, artist-book, installation, film, education curriculum, poetry, performance writing and lecture- demonstration. Over the last decade, alys has been exploring mistranslation studies, working across languages and disciplines to explore the spill of ideas beyond conventional systems of meaning, through a series of international artistic-research projects in Berlin (Germany), Santiago (Chile), Coimbra (Portugal), NYC (US), Chicago (US)Auckland (NZ), Welllington (NZ), Vienna (Austria) and Stockholm (Sweden). alys has been based in the Department of Dance Studies, University of Auckland, since 2006, where she is currently an Associate Professor.
Máximo Corvalán-Pincheira
Máximo Corvalán-Pincheira was born in November 1973 in Santiago, Chile. That same year, his family went into exile, first to Bogotá and then to Berlin. Later, they moved to Havana for five years and finally settled in Mexico City for ten years until 1990, when they finally returned to Chile. In Santiago, he studied for a Bachelor of Arts degree at the ARCIS University, graduating in the year 2000. In 2002, he studied for a Master’s degree in Visual Arts at the University
of Chile. Thematically, Corvalán-Pincheira’s work engages with power in contemporary life,
in relation to highly specific geo-political situations. Working across installation, video art, photography, performance and sculpture this work ranges across themes such as identity, memory, social control, surveillance systems and migration. Poetic and political narratives emerge through situated research from a multidisciplinary perspective. In his 20-year career, Corvalán-Pincheira’s work has included 7 biennials,19 awards, more than18 solo exhibitions and more than 29 group exhibitions on 4 continents.
Francisco González Castro
Francisco González Castro was born in 1984 in Santiago, Chile. He is an artist, researcher
and writer. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (2006) and a Master of Arts (2009) from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and a PhD in Arts (2017), with a mention in Visual Arts, at the same institution. As an artist he has developed his work from 2005 to date with exhibitions and presentations, solo and group, both in Chile and abroad (Sweden, Germany, Spain, France, United States, Mexico, Lebanon, Peru, among others). In his works and research he addresses social and political issues around power and reflects on the usefulness of art as an element of concrete change in society and within the contingency, positioning the concept of the political- artistic. Key projects include En Medio / art and society (2012), En Medio / art and contingency (2014) and Layers of disappearance: 1002 of 7000 (2016). He has presented his research in various congresses, journals and edited books in Chile and abroad. His published books with Editorial Metales Pesados include Performance Art en Chile: historias, procesos y discursos (2016) with Leonora López, Brian Smith, and Mario Pedrosa of CISAC; and Configuraciones afectivas, artísticas y políticas (2019) with Lucy Quezada and Claudia Cofré.
