Conner was Bush’s White House adviser on agricultural policy during the 2002 farm bill debate.
From a political standpoint,
lawmakers will likely be paying
attention.
The current farm law was enacted
in February 2014 and expires in
September 2018. That’s just ahead
of the midterm elections, when
lawmakers representing every
House district and 33 Senate seats
will be up for re-election. In the
Senate, 23 of those seats are
currently held by Democrats, 8 by
Republicans and 2 by Independents.
