Psalms 22:25
For Christians to fail to keep their marriage vows and depart from the marriage, it is of necessity that one be found in sin. Two believers cannot forsake their vows and remain in obedience to God.
It is a shame that statistics report that “Christians” are involved in divorces about as much as unbelievers.
When we made a commitment to pay what we owe we must keep our vow.
We read in the Bible of a woman who found herself in dire financial straits. Her husband was dead, and there seemed to be no way to pay her bills. In her distress, she came to the prophet Elisha for help.
Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.
2 Kings 4:7
Elisha didn’t tell her to go back home and put on her answering machine to screen her calls and not answer the phone when it is a bill collector calling. Instead, he, gave her a solution.
It is true that even Christians today find themselves
in similar circumstances. Some of this may be our own fault--living beyond our means. Or, it could be that there has been sickness or death in the family. But God still has an answer for us. If we owe bills, we are to pay them. If we are sincere in our commitment to pay our bills, God will provide a solution.
It is important that we recognize that our word is a vow.
