Neglecting to pay our vows will also cause the win- dows of Heaven to remain closed
If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.
Numbers 30:2
Neglecting to keep our vows is a serious situation. I don’t believe this is being addressed to God’s people as
it should. God requires all of His children to live a life of integrity. I believe that many Christians are not experi- encing God’s best because they are not keeping the com- mitments that they have made.
Let’s look at some examples of living a life of integrity.
Our commitment to our spouse is a vow we make when we get married. When we say, “To death due us part,” that is the way it must be in our life-time actions.
Our society, nor often those in our churches, do not take commitment to the marriage vow seriously. So often, the words, “till death do us part” are just a traditional part of the marriage ceremony. When hard times come (and they surely will), too often, people forget about the part of our vow that said “for better or for worse, in sickness or in health” Too soon, we are ready to “call it quits”, not realiz- ing the vow that has been spoken.
Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.
Ecclesiastes 5:5
My praise shall be of thee in the great congrega- tion: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.
