Overview
The purpose of this course is to provide guidance with regard to
the risks associated with the most common forms of electronic
communication in use by practitioners today. This course will
educate the reader about the need to develop electronic
communication protocols to comply with federal regulations,
including the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act
(HIPAA). At the end of this course, the reader should be able to
recognize common risks and pitfalls associated with electronic
communications including electronic health records (EHR), and
develop protocols for effective and secure electronic
communications.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
1) Recognize the risks of electronic communication,
documentation, and data storage, including the use of email,
texting, audio/visual recordings and social media in the
context of patient care.
2) Apply risk management tools and strategies for effective and
secure electronic communication, including EHR.
3) Develop protocols and systems for effective and secure
electronic communications, including portals.
