Using Workflow
How Do I Know There is a Transaction Pending Approval?
Transactions that require approval are listed in your Worklist, and you’ll receive an email, notifying you that a
transaction is waiting approval.
From the Compass home page, click the Worklist link.

1. Click the link for the transaction you want to review. Or, click the link in your email.
Approving and Denying
When you access a transaction in your Worklist, you will see a row of buttons available:
• Click the Approve button to approve the transaction.
• The status reflects Pending Approval until all approvers approve
• Click Deny to deny the transaction. If you deny the transaction, you are required to enter a reason in the Comments box,
which is shared with the transaction’s originator
• Click the Hold button to place the transaction on hold. This prevents others from approving the transaction No one can
access the transaction except you if you have to put the transaction on hold
• Click the Pushback button to take a currently pending step off your Worklist and return it to the previous approver or the
submitter if you are the first approver. Send the workflow item back to the previous role user. Enter comments to inform
the previous role user of what action needs to be taken. Push back can only be invoked within a given stage. The first
approver in each stage will not have the option to push back (the approver for expenses can push back to the submitter).
• Click the Add Comments button to add comments to the transaction. There is usually a comments field on the approval
page, which allows the same functionality.
• Click the Re-Submit button after making updates or corrections based on comments from a denied or pushed back
transaction. This will only apply to the Account Checker. Once a change is made, the Account Checker clicks Re-Submit and
a new workflow thread will be created using the newly entered data.
When a transaction is approved, it is automatically routed to the next step in the approval process. Some types of transactions
require multiple approvals. The transaction’s originator and others can track the progress of the transaction as it moves through the
approval steps using the approval status monitor located on each submittal and approval page.
