HEADMASTER’S LETTER
3
www.casciahall.com | SUMMER 2017
DEAR CASCIA COMMUNITY,
On a rather warm (and thankfully dry) spring night, the Class of 2017 graduated from the hallowed halls of Cascia Hall. The ceremony took place on our beautiful campus grounds in front of the St. Rita Chapel.
Former Headmaster Fr.TedTack always credited St.Rita for keeping the rain away during the outdoor ceremony and this year was no exception. In fact, we have held our graduation outdoors for 30 straight years with no rain interrupting the ceremony. Keeping in mind we are a Catholic school, I have a confession......... we have a Plan B. Yes, I know I should keep the faith as Fr.Tack did all those years, but I am weak. We have a ticketed plan for moving indoors to our Performing Arts Center in case of rain and honestly having a Plan B helps me sleep better the week of graduation. However, each year reminds me what a beautiful setting our campus provides for graduation and I want to thank Sara Pilgrim and her crew for making graduation so special.
Although graduation hasn’t changed over the years, our faculty and staff has evolved over the years and this year is no exception. The past two years Anna Amici has done a wonderful job teaching biology.Anna was very creative in making her class come alive for her students. For instance, I recall walking by her classroom and seeing a chalk outline of a body on her classroom oor.....a little alarming to an administrator, but an example of a great prop for her biology students. She and her husband are moving to Colorado where he is entering his medical residency program. Kerry Hornibrook is stepping down as Advancement Director after leading her department over ve years. She has helped raise millions of dollars for the bene t of our school and students over these years and we wish her the best in her new position at a non-pro t here in Tulsa. The good news is Kerry’s two daughters will remain at Cascia; it is wonderful she is remaining an active part of our Cascia community. Cheryl Graves has spent the last 18 years teaching in our science department. One of my favorite memories of Cheryl, besides her being my shuf eboard partner at faculty gatherings, is the year her entire AP chemistry class scored the maximum 5 on their AP exams....amazing! Her students loved her over the years just as she loved them. Also,Thomas Perrault has decided to enter the business world after being a part of our Cascia community since he arrived at Cascia in the fall of 1996 as a freshman. After graduating from Cascia and The University of Tulsa, he helped with our football program and eventually became Assistant Athletic Director. The past 8 years he has served as our Athletic Director for the entire school. He has done a simply marvelous job. In an email to our faculty and staff announcing Thomas’ departure I mentioned he has been the son I never had (although he is much larger than my son would have been, and my son would have had more hair). Thomas has been a great ambassador for Cascia in so many ways. I also want to wish safe travels to Brother Jack Hibbard who will be leaving our monastery to take a role as Prior outside of Chicago. Jack has been invaluable in our Kairos program over the years and has lled many roles in the school with a servant’s attitude that is an example to us all.
Finally, to our departing seniors, faculty and staff who have made us so proud over their years at Cascia, I leave you with a quote from St.Augustine,“I want my friend to miss me as long as I miss him”. Please know you will all be missed!
Have a wonderful summer and as always I wish you God’s Peace.
