Temporary Greyhound muzzles were replaced by English wire muzzles at the Nationals 1997
Sloughis were recognized by the National Oval Track Racing Association (NOTRA) in 1994,
2 years after it was created in 1992. The NOTRA was the first American sighthound sport
Association to recognize the breed for a sighthound sport after a racing demonstration in
Colorado.
Thanks to Jack W. Lewis, of Reata Whippets in Utah, who created the Large Gazehound
Racing Association in 1995, the Sloughis were a foundation breed of the LGRA.
Across the years, the clubs that used to host the NOTRA events for Whippets and other
breeds of sighthounds, stopped doing so. It resulted in fewer accessible NOTRA events.
In contrast LGRA events became more popular and offered accessible competitions for
titles and ranking, hence more participation from Sloughis.
