From Eglinton West subway station go south on Everden Road to the ravine. Follow the path through the ravine for about 2.5 km until it reaches Heath Street West and the St. Clair West subway station.
Toronto Islands
Eight minutes by ferry boat from downtown are the Toronto Islands. From Union station, take a street car to Queens Quay station and then walk south to the ferry terminal. Take a ferry to Ward’s Island, Centre Island or Hanlan’s Point.
The most scenic walk is the approximately 5-km route along Lake Ontario from Ward’s Island to Hanlan’s Point. Highlights include the Gibraltar
Lighthouse, built in 1808, which is believed to be haunted by its first keeper who disappeared mysteriously.
Humber River Valley
The wooded and steep-walled Humber River Valley is one of Toronto’s major river valleys. On September 9, 1615, 23-year-old explorer Etienne Brûlé looked out over Lake Ontario at the mouth of the Humber River, and became the first European to see Lake Ontario.
From Old Mill subway station, walk to the remains of the Old Mill, which dates from 1848. Cross the Old Mill Bridge to the path along the Humber River. Follow the path north for approximately 6 km along the banks of the Humber River through Etienne
Brûlé Park and wooded Lambton Park to James Gardens and Eglinton Avenue West.
Walking these trails is also a wonderful social activity that you can share with family and friends. And after a long winter, think of the lines in the old song Happy Trails by Dale Evans and Roy Rogers, “Just sing a song, and bring the sunny weather. Happy trails to you.”
