Scenes and zones – what's the difference?
These are terms you will come across when looking at lighting control systems so it's worth
understanding the difference to make sure you select the correct product.
Essentially the key difference is that Zones control individual lights whilst Scenes control groups of
lighting.
Zones :
Imagine a room with LED Strip on mounted in physically
separate areas on opposite sides of the room. These Zones 1 & 2 controlled
individual lengths of strip should be considered as 2 independantly
separate ZONES in terms of control – that is they can be
switched on or off and dimmed independently of each
other.
Scenes
Now imagine the same room and think about how this room is used – let's call it a dining room.
The lighting you prefer when you are having dinner is probably different to the lighting you require
for cleaning.
Let's create 2 different SCENES.
Scene 1 could be “Dining” - LED 1 is on at 70%, Strip2 is off.
Scene 2 might be “Cleaning” so the brightness of all strips would be set to 100%.
70% On 100%
Dining Scene Cleaning Scene
Off On 100%
To set the scenes, each piece of LED strip is adjusted separately and then when you are happy with
the lighting effect, then pressing the Scene button will programme those settings for instant recall.
