Executive Editor’s Note:
I was deeply touched by the passing of Don Carpenter and honored to have the opportunity to serve as one of

his pallbearers. I have known Don since my early years with the Fraternal Order of Police. Don was always sup-
portive of me in my efforts with the FOP and someone I considered to be a true friend. Don was definitely a
straight shooter and a truly dedicated FOP member. And when I think of Don I naturally think of Carol. My
thoughts and prayers are with Carol and their daughter. Don will be truly missed by those of us who were fortu-
nate enough to have had the opportunity to know and associate with him and to share his friendship.

Greetings from the Immediate Past President

                 By Terry Mangum

As we approach the end of 2017, I send Seasons Greetings to all of my Brothers and Sisters of the North Caro-

lina State Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police. I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving and hope you are able to

enjoy an abundance of delicious culinary delights. Also, I would like to wish each and every one of you a Merry

Christmas and a Happy New Year. With the quick pace of life today, we all need to remember to slow down

enough to enjoy and share this special time with our families and friends.

I would also like to extend my annual reminder and invitation to stop by our home in Durham to see our an-

nual Mangum Family Christmas Lights show. The synchronized Christmas lights and

music show will begin on the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 24. The last night
for the show will be New Year’s Eve. Remember to tune your car radio to 90.3 FM to
enjoy the music from your car while you watch the lights “dance” to the music. During

the show, which repeats approximately every hour and thirty minutes, one of our profes-

sional voiceovers reminds visitors to support the Fraternal Order of Police, both the

State Lodge and Durham County Lodge 2. Our address is on Guess Road and this will

be our fifth Christmas light show at this location. Call or email me if you need direc-

tions.

Again, I hope you have a joyous holiday season. If I may be of assistance to you, or Terry Mangum
if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. As always,
I am here to serve you and our membership. Immediate Past President
