Dashina Manning, mother of Edgecombe County Deputy David Manning who died in the line of duty earlier this

year, said she was proud of her son and grateful for the new law enforcement family that has adopted her son's family.

Dashina Manning stated, "They've been so nice. They have been so helpful."

Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone said the community owes a debt of honor to the fallen heroes and thanked

the families. Stone said he's been in area law enforcement for 30 years and there's been more law enforcement officers

who have died in the past three decades than all others combined since records began being kept around the turn of the

20th century. “God bless the families who watch and wait while law enforcement officers do their jobs.” He thanked

Rocky Mount Police Chief Willie Williams and Edgecombe County Sheriff Clee Atkinson for their close cooperation

in pro-tecting the community. "Be safe and watch your partner's six," Stone told the gathered law enforcement officers.

As each name of the fallen was read, a law enforcement officer or family members placed a rose on a

ceremonial wreath. The ceremony concluded with a 21-gun salute, the playing of “Taps,” a bagpipe version of

"Amazing Grace" and a prayer.
