Fly High Today No More!

I would fly high today, They taught us, educated us,
like there is no tomorrow, Taught us how to speak up,
It’s time for you and me, Only to silence us one day,
To bury these sorrows, We are told not to express our opinions,
No skirts, no jeans, Because a woman should only be seen not heard,
My shorts are too short,
“This is not how girls sit!” They tell us to wait for a man to provide,
I’m sorry, I was never taught! To all the gender specific roles we must abide,
Boys don’t cry, are you a loser? A woman should be tucked away like a possession,
Pink can’t be your favourite, But what about her own ambitions?
Don’t you care about your future?
Barbies and dolls, We are constantly told to put out needs aside,
Better hide them before your dad calls. but no more will we abide,
To the society’s rule,
Which are nothing but cruel.
But who ever thought about,
What we really want? No more will we be apologetic,
Till when can we allow, No more will we be silenced,
these ghosts of yesterday, No more will we wait for a boy,
To haunt us? Now is the time we raise our voice,
But I will fly high today, To show the world what it means to be a woman.
