JOSIE HARPER-CAPTAIN
Josie joined the Latin community in ninth grade and immediately made an impact on the swim team.
She says the swim team is where she has found some of her best friends, and this year is extra special because both of her siblings, sophomore James and freshman Fiona, are on the team with her. As a two-year captain, a swimming representative in SALT, and a founding member of Project Strong (our strength training initiative), Josie has led through example with her hard work and consis- tency. She is a versatile swimmer with natural ability, and she slides through the water with grace and quiet strength.
TYLER HILL-CAPTAIN
Tyler is a Latin lifer and who has been a summer league swimmer from a very young age. He has a natural athleticism that has allowed him to compete for the Hawks in soccer and baseball, in addition to swimming, but his drive and competitiveness have propelled him to success in the pool. A four-year state championship qual- ifier, Tyler has made huge progress in his technique and race strategy. He finished a very respectable 25th as
a freshman in the 100 butterfly, but has cut nearly 10 seconds from that time and placed 11th at last year’s state championship to score for the Hawks. In addition to his develop- ment as a swimmer, Tyler has shown tremendous growth as a leader, and earned the votes of his teammates to become a captain this year. He has a great sense of humor and oftentimes has the team and coaches cracking up, but also knows when it is time to get serious. Tyler very rarely misses a workout either in the Strength Center or the pool and is quick with a fist bump to congratulate someone on a strong set or a new best time.
DAN SCHWARZ
Dan is a Latin lifer who started swim- ming for the Hawks in 7th grade.
He is a three-time state qualifier in
his specialty, the 100 breaststroke, and he also contributes to the team effort in the sprint freestyles. Dan is a three-season athlete who competes in cross country in the fall and track
in the spring, giving him great all- around aerobic conditioning that pays dividends in the pool. He is a steady, consistent worker who enjoys the team atmosphere in practices and the camaraderie that comes from finishing a tough set together. Dan is always driven to improve and readily applies suggested technique adjustments, making him a very coachable athlete. One thing is for sure, you can count on Dan to do his best and encourage his teammates to do the same.
