LETTER FROM THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
Dear Hawks Fans,
Greetings! I hope this letter finds you and your immediate and extended family healthy and well.
As I sit down to put pen to paper, we have nearly completed the winter season and while this unusual year has challenged us
in impossible ways to imagine at times, the overwhelming emotion I am filled with is gratitude. Knowing intimately what kind of effort it has taken to allow athletics to be a possibility for our students this year, I am immensely thankful to many across the CLS community.
From the outset of reengaging in sports, the commitment and attention to detail of our coaching staff has been required and fully on display - I can’t say enough about their demonstrated leadership throughout. In customary fashion, our Booster Club reached out to offer whatever and wherever assistance has been needed. Their can-do spirit demonstrates yet again the selfless attitude required to support our entire program. Equally, our nursing staff and athletic trainers have been pivotal leaders in maintaining the health and safety of our athletes and community. Their tireless, behind the scenes work has contributed mightily for the “Green Go” on athletics this year. Finally, not knowing what kind of year this would ultimately be, great flexibility from the part of our families has been more necessary than at any other recent time. Our thanks for quickly pivoting when asked and adjusting to an ever-changing definition of guidelines to allow our program to move forward each and every day.
While athletics has been one of the few community gathering activities we’ve been able to consistently offer this year, we know that more than anything the main purpose of this outlet has been to support the physical and mental wellbeing of our students. I know that the efforts of the above groups and others have been in loving support of our student-athletes, who themselves, have expressed their thanks for the opportunities to play by following the many new and detailed policies/protocols.
Lastly, as I end where I started in offering my heartfelt gratitude for the many contributing hands who have assisted our athletic program through nearly two seasons, I am confident that all that we’ve learned and experienced thus far will allow us to safely continue with spring sports and end the year on a high note.
