LETTER FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
The 2021–22 school year is off to a transformative start. Our stands are full of cheering fans and supportive parents. There is pent- up excitement and demand for our Hawks as each team competes. Our students missed this time together as a community during COVID, and they are making the most of Latin’s long tradition of supporting classmates as they compete. This sense of community was on full display for Touchdown Tailgate. With more than 1,500 fans filling Patten Stadium, Charlotte Latin crushed its last atten- dance record by several hundred. Lower School students dressed in their Latin cheer and football uniforms to climb up and down Hawk Hill with their friends; Middle School students gathered on the track to cheer on the Hawks with their classmates; and the Upper School students filled the student section to the brim, dressed in their red, white, and blue. Latin was a community again and savored every second of the game together. Athletics has the amazing ability to bring a school together, and our Booster Club is instrumental in creating that important experience for each of our student-athletes.
Latin’s facilities continue to provide our student-athletes with the best experience possible. Thanks to the generosity of the Sal- vage family, we transformed the track in Patten Stadium this summer. While the colors certainly pop and give Patten Stadium an aesthetic refresh, runners will certainly take note of the state-of-the-art surface this spring.
I am so proud of all of our Latin Hawks, particularly those in Upper School who are setting the bar high for younger generations to follow. In addition, I want to thank the Charlotte Latin Athletics program staff and our amazing Booster Club volunteers who have spent countless hours making it possible for students to practice and compete. Your hard work and dedication is noticed and appreciated.
Thank you, Latin community, for including my family and me on this incredible team. We feel so blessed to be a part of such a special community.
