Congratulations Seniors!
ANNABEL CHEN - CAPTAIN
Annabel has been a 4-year member of the varsity team, contributing solid wins in singles and doubles during that time. In the past 2 years, Annabel has especially tak- en to the nuances of winning doubles. She has become an excellent net player, clog- ging the middle and putting away volleys at will. She
and Mayes Fisher became
a formidable doubles team that added to our team’s success in both 2019 & 2020. Off the court, Annabel is an approachable connector among her teammates, of- fering an understanding ear and great advice. She was also instrumental in bringing team issues to the coaches so that the team felt heard and understood. She worked really well with the other captains to make sure we had fun and maintained great team chemistry during this crazy Covid season!
KATE COPPAGE - CAPTAIN
Kate has been a valuable part of the varsity team.
A 4-year starter, Kate has amassed a substantial amount of wins in both singles and doubles during that time. Kate has handled the pressure of being our #1 player for the past 3 years. Kate secured last season’s thrilling come-from-be- hind victory at states over Durham Academy, defeat- ing previously unbeaten Madeline Towning in a 3rd set tiebreaker. A year round player, Kate trains hard during our school season and pushes herself the rest of the year in high level USTA Junior tournaments across the Southeast. Kate recently announced her decision to study pre-med and play collegiate tennis at Sewanee: The University of the South next year. Kate leaves an impressive legacy as a leader of the two-time state champion Hawks.
CHLOE FLOYD - CAPTAIN
Chloe has been a force of nature during her 4 years
as a Tennis Lady Hawk. Her powerful, all court game has resulted in an incredible 44-7 record in singles during that time. Chloe and Nina Lavelle have teamed to become one of strongest women’s doubles teams in NC in the past 3 years, losing only 4 matches at Line 1 in 3 years. They play doubles the way it is meant to be played, with big serves, baseline winners down the line, and suffo- cating net play! Chloe has had key wins in singles and doubles the past two years to help lead the team in back-to-back state champi- onships. Chloe’s smile and chill, fun vibe off the court have made her an effective and beloved captain. She understands how to bal- ance hard work with lots of laughs, dancing, and fun whenever she is with her teammates.
ELIZA POOLE - CAPTAIN
Eliza joined the varsity team her freshman year. She has been a valuable anchor over that time, especially in sin- gles. A Latin two-sport ath- lete, Eliza is quietly compet- itive. Her tennis is extremely consistent so anyone trying to beat her has got to take the match from her as she does not give up or miss! She has also been incredibly flex- ible and eager to improve in doubles, playing and winning with a variety of partners. Eliza has been a fantastic captain over the last two years. She is fun, kind, and low profile, with her finger on the pulse of what the team wants and needs. She has been great at fostering team chemistry beginning last year, when 6 new freshmen (including her sister Eleanor) joined the team. Eliza wins and loses with class and has exhibited a team-first attitude every single day.
