BOYS TENNIS RECAP
VARSITY TENNIS
We were grateful to have a season! With COVID protocols, we went through twice as many tennis balls and played in masks with plenty of hand sanitizer at the ready! On the court, the Hawks continued their upward trend, closing the gap against the state’s top teams. Latin finished 2nd in the CISAA Conference behind #1 Country Day, making the Bucs earn it with a very competitive 5-4 loss in their second away match after losing the first 6-3. For perspective, we had lost either 9-0 or 8-1 to CCD eight times between 2016- 2019. Latin had 2 playoff wins this year against Christ School and Carmel Chrsitian before falling in another very close NCISAA semifinal match at Greensboro Day. Our last loss to them in 2019 was 6-1.
JUNIOR VARSITY TENNIS
JV tennis focuses on skill and strategic tennis development, but the 2021 season also came with a lot of wins. The Hawks finished with a record of 9 wins, 0 loses and 1 rainout. All of the players improved and performed well. Devin Amin, our JV captain, was unde- feated in his eleven matches. Rohan Nadkarni went undefeated in 18 matches. Calvin Eh- renberg won all but one of his matches with a strategy of relentless pursuit. The doubles team of Nadkarni and Alex Troni at Line 1 anchored the team with 9 solid wins.
MIDDLE SCHOOL TENNIS
This season’s middle school tennis proved to be a building year for the boys. Howev-
er, the Hawks still had a number of good performances. Charlie Stubbs and David Tian paired well at #1 doubles and won most of their matches. David Tian also recorded the highest number of wins at #2 singles. In his first year of team tennis, Merritt Backerman proved highly effective at #3 singles. In fact, all the boys were extremely competitive in a year where the competition was as strong or better than in seasons past.
