What were the prime factors behind the promotion of the Jayshree Periwal High School in 2001?
Strong belief that quality primary-secondary education is the prime driver of economic growth and deep desire to
provide contemporary, world-class K-12 education in educationally under-served Rajasthan. Since then, with the suc-
cess of JPHS, we have expanded our operations to provide high-quality pre-primary to higher secondary education
in Jaipur.
Your second venture in K-12 education — the Jayshree Periwal International School — is Rajasthan’s first prima-
ry-secondary affiliated with two international boards (IB and Cambridge). What are the distinguishing features of
a JPIS education?
At JPIS, we provide our children globally benchmarked pedagogies, rigorous curriculums, and excellent sports and
co-curricular education rooted in Indian culture and traditions. Our focus is on students developing 21st century skills
of collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving to prepare them for success in the world’s top-ranked univer-
sities and global workplaces.
What would you say is the impact of the JP Group of schools on K-12 education in Rajasthan?
We have pioneered international schooling in the state and placed Rajasthan on the world K-12 education map. Jai-
pur is now acknowledged as a major education hub of north India with the world’s premier universities visiting our
campuses. Last year, JPIS students received scholarships valued at $8.4 million for study in the world’s top-ranked
universities. Moreover, Stanford University among other globally reputed universities, conduct their student summer
programmes in JPIS every year.
Thinker/ philosopher you admire the most
Rene Descartes, the father of modern philosophy who famously said ‘I think therefore I am’. I am also inspired by Pla-
to’s philosophy of education.
Your leadership style
A good leader should be the first among equals with capability to develop second-rung leaders well-prepared to take
charge and attain institutional goals.
Your favourite book on education
Excellent Sheep by William Deresiewicz; Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother by Amy Chua; The Little Prince by Antoine
de Saint-Exupery.
How satisfied are you with the growth and development of JP Group of primary-secondaries and preschools?
Over the past two decades, 20,000 students have graduated from JP schools. I feel very satisfied that our alumni are
contributing to India’s growth and development. Simultaneously, I’m also aware we have a long way to go and cannot
afford to rest on our laurels.
What are your future growth and development plans?
Currently we are expanding JPIS capacity and plan to increase this school’s residential housing to host the large num-
ber of children from across India and around the world aspiring to study with us.
