n outstanding track and field games star during her school days, Dr. Jayshree Periwal
A is a psychology graduate of Delhi University with a B.Ed awarded by the Indira Gandhi
National Open University (IGNOU), Delhi. In 2014 she was awarded a Ph D in English litera-
ture by the Open International University of Complementary Medicines, Colombo.
Determined to provide high-quality English-medium schooling to children in the educa-
tionally under-served state of Rajasthan, in 1995 Periwal promoted the Step by Step nursery
(now the Jayshree Periwal International Preschool). The success of this venture which intro-
duced early childhood education global best practices to the citizens of Jaipur, prompted
her to promote the CBSE-affiliated Jayshree Periwal High School (JPHS) in 2001. A decade
later with JPHS firmly established as the city’s premier K-12 school, Periwal launched Ra-
jasthan’s first new-genre IB/Cambridge International-affiliated Jayshree Periwal Interna-
tional School (JPIS). The latest addition to the group’s institutions is the newly promoted
CBSE-affiliated Jayshree Periwal Global School, Jagatpura which admitted its first batch of
500 students in 2019.
“Step by Step was Jaipur’s first globally benchmarked preschool to provide youngest chil-
dren joyful and age-appropriate early childhood education. Following its success, I dis-
cerned growing parental demand for holistic education which balances academics, co-cur-
ricular and sports education, and promoted JPHS in 2001. A decade later, I realised that
children of Rajasthan were deprived of an international school to prepare them for higher
education in the world’s best universities. Fortunately, JPIS has lived to its promise with
graduates welcomed into the world’s top-ranked universities with generous scholarships,”
says Dr. Periwal, also chairperson of the PHD Chamber of Commerce (Rajasthan), secretary
of the Society for Unaided Private Schools of Rajasthan, who has launched several commu-
nity outreach projects in association with councils for Rehabilitation of Women (Rajasthan)
and Education for Slum Children, Jaipur.
