Cornish lifestyle brand, Seasalt, was the rst fashion company to win a Queen’s Award
for Sustainable Development in 2013. Since then, Seasalt has continued to build on its sustainable growth with additional shops and new product launches, such as homeware, footwear and a plus-sized collection.
The award recognises the pioneering e orts the company has made to the organic cotton industry in the UK, with Seasalt being the rst fashion company to gain Soil Association certi cation for its cotton garments back in 2005. Subsequently the company became the UK’s biggest seller
of organic cotton, with over 1.7 million organic garments sold so far.
Seasalt, based in Falmouth, has seen in excess of a 30% year on year sales growth for the
past four years and is one of Cornwall’s largest employers.

The company, which is still family owned and run by the three Chadwick brothers, Neil, Leigh and David after their father opened the rst shop in 1981, runs over 40 of its own shops, has a rapidly expanding online shop which delivers to 129 countries, and supplies John Lewis, Next Directory and a further 400 independent retail stockists across the UK, Eire, and Germany. The award recognised the bene cial e ects that Seasalt has on showcasing Cornwall, and in turn, its tourism.
