  Adjectives that Compare
These adjectives will tell you how two or more nouns are the same or different.
• When you are comparing two nouns you will add –er to most one syllable adjectives.
• Sometimes you will need to change the spelling of an adjective when you are adding –er or –est.
• When you are comparing three or more nouns you will add –est to most one syllable adjectives.
   If the adjective ends in:
  add:
  Examples:
  consonant + -y
 change –y to an -i
-er or -est
   easy • easier • easiest
 consonant + -e
  drop the -e
  late • later • latest
  consonant + vowel + consonant
   double the final consonant
  big • bigger • biggest
 Examples:
happy
happier
happier happiest
high
higher
higher highest
    happy
high
