a. Sentences
a sentence expresses a complete thought.
The compass is quite a common thing.
Sentences are divided into two parts: the subject and the predicate.
The subject is the person or thing that performs an action. The predicate is the action that the person or thing does.
b. Complete and Simple Subjects
The complete subject is all the words that are at the beginning of the sentence. The simple subject is the person or thing the sentence talks about.

c. Complete and Simple Predicates
The complete predicate is all the words in a sentence that tell what the subject is or does.
The simple predicate is the action (verb) the person or thing performs.
Kotei invented a chariot with the figure of a man on it always pointing to the south. (The complete predicate of the sentence is invented a chariot with the figure of a man on it always pointing to the south).
