             d. Compound Subjects and Predicates
Some sentences have two subjects, when a sentence has two subjects joined by and, it has a compound subject, and both subjects share the same predicate.
The compass and the shinansha were two remarkable inventions from long ago.
(The sentence has two subjects compass and shinansha joined by and, therefore it is a compound subject, they share the predicate were).
Some sentences share the same subject but they have two predicates. The predicates are joined by “and.” This means that the sentence has a compound predicate.
Kotei thought and pondered deeply as to how he should conquer the magician.
(The sentence has two predicates thought and pondered, joined by and, therefore it is a compound predicate, which means they share the subject Kotei).
