The Berlin Wall
After World War II Germany was divided into two states, the Western Federal Republic of Germany and the Eastern German Democratic Republic. In 1961, the government of East Germany decided to build a wall. The main purpose for it was to stop the people from the East from escaping to the West side. Can you imagine not being able to see your family or friends just because they lived on the other side of the wall? This lasted for 28 years. It was not until 1989 when the borders separating the West and the East were finally opened. The government could not stop the people from tearing down the wall. On October 1990 the two sides of
Germany were officially reunited.
Famous PeoPle
If you talk about Germany you have to mention Albert Einstein, one of the most famous scientists of the twentieth century. His most famous discovery is the theory
of relativity: E=mc2
An interesting fact about Albert Einstein is that although he is known as a genius now, when he was a child he had difficulty learning to speak and was a trouble maker in class. He even dropped out of high school and had to take special exams to enter college, and even then he failed the first set of exams and had to retake them. Nowadays, he is often considered the smartest man who ever lived.
