  Action and Linking Verbs
    Action Verb
an action verb tells what the subject of the sentence does, did, or will do.
an action verb is often followed by a direct object, which receives the action of
the verb.
Examples: he gave him a lump of gold as big as his head. (gave is the action verb) hans receives a cow instead of a horse. (receives is the action verb)
Linking Verb
a linking verb joins the subject of a sentence to a noun, a pronoun, or an adjective in the predicate that renames or describes the subject.
Common Linking Verbs
Examples: i am a servant.
hans is a good worker.
The bargain seems tempting.

              Language. Underline the action verbs and circle the linking verbs.
1. i am afraid.
2. There is something quite wrong about your pig.
3. The horseman heard hans say this, and called out to him.
4. hans pulled his handkerchief out of his pocket and tied up the lump of gold in it, hoisted it on his shoulder, and set off on his way home.
