Answer the questions.
1. What strange custom did the king have?
Every day after dinner, when the table was cleared, and no one else was present, a trusty servant had to bring him one more dish. It was covered, however, and even the servant did not know what was in it.
2. Why do you think the king didn’t want anyone to know about was being served to him?
Answers Vary. Students might answer that the king did not want anyone else to have the power of understanding animals for it gave him great wisdom and power over his subjects.
3. Do you think it was right for the servant to peek inside the dish and to take a bite without permission? Explain.
Answers vary. Students might say the servant had no right to take something that did not belong to him. That it was reserved only for Kings.
