23. What does Friar Lawrence propose Romeo to do? Why does Romeo accept his suggestion?
He tells Romeo to go and secretly say goodbye to his love and then go straightaway to Mantua. To wait there until things calm down and he would send him news with a messenger. He would then announce to the families what had been done and he could come back when they had accepted the marriage. He thinks it is a good idea and that he could at least pass a night with his love before having to say goodnight.
24. When Juliet hears the birds singing in the morning, after having spent her first night with her husband, why does she say it is the nightingale and not the lark?
Because she knows that the lark singing in the morning signals the end of Romeo being there, he must leave. She says it’s the nightingale because those birds sing at night and she wants to prolong the night as much as she can.
