25. What new conflict arises for the “star-crossed” lovers, while Romeo is away?
Juliet’s father, in an attempt to bring her out of her misery, arranges a “suitable” marriage for her, she is to marry Count Paris.
26. Name two reasons Juliet gives her father for not wanting to marry Count Paris.
She said that it would be unsuitable for her to marry Paris while she was still so depressed about Tybalt’s death and that having a wedding feast while so little time of his death had passed was indecorous.
27. Summarize the extreme measures Juliet goes through to avoid this marriage?
After she tried talking to her father and he would not listen to her pleas she goes to seek Friar Lawrence’s help. He suggests her to go back home and pretend to go along with the wedding but on the night prior to the wedding she should drink from a vial that he gave her. This potion would make her seem dead but she would wake up from her slumber and be taken away by Romeo, whom the Friar would notify via messenger.
