8. What is Jormungand? Why did Thor and Jormungand become bitter enemies?
Jormungand is a serpent that encircles the world and lives under the sea. Thor almost killed Jormungand in battle but it was saved by the giant Hymir, and now they are destined to kill each other when Ragnarok comes.
9. Who are the Aesir? Who was their ruler?
Odin was the ruler of the Aesir, the gods and goddesses of Asgard.
10. Which sublime human art form is associated with Odin?
Poetry.
11. It is said that Odin guided warriors and poets alike. What do you consider some qualities both warriors and poets have in common? Explain.
Both warriors and poets must have passion and intensity for their work; otherwise they will not succeed in their task.
12. Why was Valhalla so special for a warrior?
Because it was the Hall of the great Odin in Asgard. There they would be great warriors again, after they had been slain in battle. It was an honor to go to Valhalla and serve in Odin’s army.
