 Writing Workshop. Creative Writing
CReaTive WRiTing
Is a form of artistic expression. Usually an untraditional free way of writing, it means anybody can do it as long as they use their imagination and “creativity”. It has to be original and entertaining to the reader. Poetry, novels and short stories are great examples.
UnReliable naRRaToR
Is the one who lacks credibility or it has been compromised; this means the narrator is not being totally honest with the reader. It can be due to mental illness, age, or maybe because he is a character himself. The reason for this is usually to deceive the reader.
The first paragraph from the story you just read is a perfect example.
TRUE!—nervous—very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad? The disease had sharpened my senses—not destroyed—not dulled them. Above all was the sense of hearing acute. I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell. How, then, am I mad? Hearken! And observe how healthily—how calmly I can tell you the whole story.
When you are writing a story it is always interesting for the reader if you keep him guessing, especially if the ending is totally unexpected, this is a surprise ending.
