CRITERIA FOR
YARD OF THE MONTH RECOGNITION
The YOM should present a neat, well-groomed, attractive
appearance to the public, with a combination of healthy grass and
flowers.
The majority of the yard work should be done by the owners or
gardeners themselves.
The YOM shall use good environmental practices, such as minimal
and careful use of herbicides and fertilizers, so harmful runoff does
not occur.
The YOM should use a combination of annuals and perennials to
present continuous bloom over the season.
All members should be on the lookout for a yard in the county that
meets these criteria and notify the committee chairpersons for
consideration of the award.
The winning yard will be photographed and an article published in
the Emmetsburg newspaper.
