CENTRAL LOUISIANA
Avoyelles Parish is geographically located in the center of Louisiana. It offers
many opportunities to experience unique attractions, local food, historical
sites, and nature-based adventures.
A serene site to visit is St. Joseph’s Adoration Chapel in Markville, built prior
to the Civil War on the beautiful grounds of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church
circa. 1925, featuring a 40’ x 24’ hand painted mural as the backdrop of the
sanctuary.
The Bayou Rouge Baptist Church and cemetery, established in 1841 is in a
beautiful setting in Evergreen and continues serving the community. A few
miles east in Bunkie you will find St. Anthony’s Catholic Church established
in 1926 and Bunkie First Baptist Church established in 1951.
Located throughout the parish are historic homes. There is even a unique
iron bridge built in 1916 and placed on the National Historic Register. While
you are here learn about Native American history or take a laid-back stroll
down our charming main streets where you will find friendly folk who enjoy
telling stories of their heritage.
Avoyelles Parish is no stranger to fun; you can enjoy
