The Official Meal of North Louisiana
Cajun and Creole might be what comes to mind first when you think of Louisiana, but in the northern region of the state, you’re in for an entirely
different treat. While still home to classic Louisiana dishes like gumbo and jambalaya, this region also favors Deep South soul food. To capture
this culinary uniqueness, North Louisiana has an officially designated official meal that was legislated in 2015. So what does it include? Fried
catfish, of course, along with purple hull peas, hot water cornbread, rice with gravy, collard greens and the iconic mini Natchitoches meat pie.
Desserts include sweet potato pie and peach cobbler. And the official beverage is – what else? – sweet tea.
Louisiana Libations
After tasting their way across the state, visitors to Louisiana will need a little something to wash it all down. Luckily for them we are crafting
more than delicious cuisine. The state is also home to craft breweries, distilleries and wineries. Each one prides itself on unique flavors, and
many utilize local ingredients. You can find wines and beers featuring fresh blueberries or strawberries, roasted coffee, and honey. Distilleries
are taking advantage of the state’s robust sugarcane and rice production as they create a variety of spirits, including vodka, rum, gin and
