The importance of governments to guarantee, foster and stimulate the mobility of all persons in their territory, should not be underestimated, as it is directly correlated to its economic development and securing
a competitive position in the global economy.
On an international stage, economic mobility speaks of the ability to move capital world-wide and the move or migration of nationals to other countries where their skills are required. Immigration in response
to the lack of safety afforded by certain countries increases the pool
of foreign educated professionals into the receiving country and affords
in turn greater access to the global economy through their skills and foreign know-how.
Within the national territory, mobility stretches its influence throughout society from the freedom to transfer education and work skills beyond Provincial boundaries; access to roads that are built to promote the safe movement of transportation of goods, travel and tourism; access to people with disabilities to become a contributing part of the economy; access to greater speed in communication and transfer of information; and to access to education and health care that leads to upward societal mobility.
Evidence of the interesting phenomenon of mobility can be first observed when young adults finish their high-school education. This change causes the first generational mobility that, in a tsunami wave, spills over onto other cities as well as to far away places in the world seeking jobs, adventure, higher education. The recipient cities then benefit largely from this mass of mobile students arriving at its doorsteps looking for accommodation, accessing groceries, drug stores, bars, restaurants, outdoor activities and boosting the employment levels in such cities.
