The increase in mobility in trade and skills has led to a market place that operates on a global scale. As workplaces shift and work hours become more malleable, business opportunities that would not have been available in the past, due to the cost associated with distance and travel exigencies, have become common place.
Immigration policies in Canada, shaped largely by the need to attract foreign capital and skills and increase Canada’s population, are necessary for Canada to compete in a global economy. On the one hand, Canada’s population growth sits at about 1.55 children per woman of bearing-age, well below the replacement rate of 2.1 births per woman to maintain its population. On the other hand, arguably, the greater the access to foreign skilled workers and professionals residing in Canadian territory, the greater the access, in its own backyard, to foreign know-how, skills and understanding of foreign cultural mores which would provide Canada with a unique edge to stay in the game as a key actor in a global-led business environment, The group of BEST entrepreneurs and professionals are uniquely positioned to provide you with a cross-section of foreign skills and know-how as it applies to diverse sectors in the workplace and society. This issue of the BEST magazine is focused on providing useful information on how the services of BEST members are fueled and shaped by mobility to serve you better; how mobility has impacted their businesses; and how mobility can impact your own businesses and lives.
If you ever find yourself cornered by an impromptu survey on the definition of mobility, your safe bet is to answer that mobility is the holy grail of freedom and economic prosperity.
