The Economist Intelligence Unit recalls an interesting correlation between the cities at the top; the tendency is that these cities are mid-sized and in wealthy countries; and generally, have low population densities. This correlation would provide a clear explanation as to why 6 of the top 10 cities are in Canada and Australia (Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney). And while the

market because of Toronto’s
inevitable population
growth. As a city that has
been projected by the
Ontario Government to grow
by 30.2 per cent, or almost 4.3
million, over the next 24 years;
these infrastructure issues are
starting to come to light now and
will be impossible to ignore in coming
years if Toronto wishes to maintain a spot as
one of the 10 most liveable cities in the world.
Despite this low infrastructure score Toronto’s 97.2 for Culture & Environment was topped only by Vancouver and Melbourne; keeping Toronto from falling out of the top 10.
of these factors has propelled Canadian cities to the top of the liveability ranks; there are plenty of other factors involved.
To achieve their ranks Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary all scored perfectly in the stability, healthcare, and education categories. CBC News made an important distinction that perfect rankings don't imply cities are absolutely perfect in those categories, or impartial to improvement; but simply that they are superior compared to others in those categories. Toronto achieved a lower overall ranking than the other two Canadian cities as it had the lowest infrastructure score out of the top 10.
