Referendum Update
In November 2014, Joliet Park District residents approved a $19.5 million bond measure, with funds earmarked for a number of projects, including: renovating and updating various parks throughout Joliet, safety and security upgrades, Pilcher Park road renovations, reforestry program, ATI Field at Joliet Memorial Stadium lighting upgrades, and an eastside community center.
Sta went right to work on these projects, and we are making great progress. ATI Field at
Joliet Memorial Stadium received new lights in time for the 2015 football season, the Joliet Park District Board of Commissioners approved a two-phase plan to restore the roads at Pilcher Park (tentatively scheduled to be completed in 2017), and we’re in the early planning stages for an eastside community center. We hope to unveil an updated safety and security plan encom- passing the entire park district in 2017.
We’ve also been hard at work updating a number of community parks throughout Joliet, including Rockdale School Playground, Garnsey Park, Oak Valley Park, Mayor Art Schultz Park, Heggie Park, Marquette Park, Ferris Park, Briese Park, Osgood Park, Barr Park, West Park, Gottschalg Park, Shimshok Park, Gutierrez Park, Warren Sharpe Park, Legion Park, Manningdale Park, and Crombie Park.
Thank you to everyone who supported this referendum. We take great pride in our parks, facilities and programs, and we’re always striving to live up to our mission of promoting healthy lifestyle choices to our community.
